Shisha 'as harmful as cigarettes'

Smoking a shisha pipe is as bad for people as smoking tobacco, the Department of Health and the Tobacco Control Collaborating Centre has found, Qatar News Agency (QNA) reported yesterday.

The research revealed that people who smoke shisha, or herbal tobacco, can suffer from high carbon monoxide levels.

It found one session of smoking shisha resulted in carbon monoxide levels at least four to five times higher than the amount produced by one cigarette. High levels of carbon monoxide can lead to brain damage and unconsciousness.

Shisha is a water-pipe in which fruit-scented tobacco is burnt using coal, passed through an ornate water vessel and inhaled through a hose.

The Department of Health said it is difficult to know exactly how much carbon monoxide one cigarette produced, due to the differences in smokers' inhalations.

But measuring carbon monoxide in exhaled breath showed a normal non-smoker's level to be three parts CO per million parts of air (ppm) (less than 1 per cent of blood not working properly), a light smoker to have 10 to 20 ppm (2 to 4 per cent of blood not working properly), and a heavy smoker 30 to 40 ppm (5 to 7 percent).

The study found shisha smokers had 40 to 70 ppm of CO in their breath - affecting 8 to 12 per cent of their blood.

Dr Hilary Wareing, director of the Tobacco Control Collaborating Centre, told the BBC's Asian Network she was shocked by the results of the research.

"Our mouths opened at the level of harm - none of the tests we did showed anything other than shisha is hazardous to health."

Paul Hooper, regional manager at the Department of Health, said the findings made the dangers of shisha a "major issue".

He said many people regard shisha "as not even smoking"

Latest at Old Trafford

There has been alot of hot and spicy news today about Manchester United and I plan to share some of it with you guys.

First of all...

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson will make a bid to sign Argentinian striker Mauro Boselli this summer, according to the News of the World.

The 24-year-old is currently playing for Estudiantes in Argentina and has bagged 24 goals in 34 games this season.

Boselli is rumoured to have attracted attention from a host of other Premier League sides as well as Italian title challengers Roma.

The report claims that Boselli, who has one international cap for his country, would cost the champions just £5 million.

United's stiking options have come under scrutiny recently with reports suggesting under-fire forward Dimitar Berbatov could be set for a move to Italy.

Should Boselli make the move to Old Trafford he would become the club's second signing from the Americas in quick succession after the Red Devils announced the capture of Javier Hernandez from Chivas in Mexico earlier this month.

Secondly...

Manchester United are reportedly interested in signing Tottenham Hotspur defender Gareth Bale and midfielder Luka Modric.

Spurs manager Harry Redknapp has insisted young Welshman Bale is not for sale and will remain at White Hart Lane as part of the plan to build a solid side capable of challenging for honours.

Bale has been in impressive form and has scored against both Arsenal and Chelsea in recent weeks. The youngster has also attracted interest from Serie A fallen giants Juventus who were reportedly willing to offer a sum in the range of £14 million to tempet Spurs to sell the player.
The Daily Mail reports Redknapp is however interested in signing former Spurs midfielder Michael Carrick and has indicated on previous occasions his desire to bring back the midfielder.

The Spurs boss claimed Sir Alex Ferguson would not let Carrick leave Old Trafford but with the Red Devils manager interested in Bale and Modric there could be room for business.

Finally...

Manchester United and Everton are believed to be in pursuit of Netherlands Under-17 international Bob Schepers.

The 17-year-old plays for SC Cambuur-Leeuwarden, a club from the Dutch second-tier, and has been playing regular first-team football in recent times.

The budding talent's performances for the second division side have attracted interest from England in the past, and The Daily Mail claims that scouts sent by United and the Toffees watched the player in action during the club's recent game against RBC Roosendaal.

Schepers has about two years left on his contract with his current club, and is believed to be on the radar of Ajax, while the player's agent has in the past admitted to interest from Blackburn Rovers and Wigan Athletic as well.

So.... What do you guys think about all this??

How to Restore Your Privacy on Facebook

Since posting about Facebook's latest privacy rollback, we've received emails asking how users can protect themselves, and for clarification about what happened. Here, then, is a quick guide to locking down the new Facebook.

First off, one big caveat: It is simply impossible to have the old Facebook experience with the old level of privacy. If you want the old level of privacy, you're going to have to give up some functionality; if you want all the old functionality, you're going to have to give up some privacy. Below, we detail what you'd need to do to maximize privacy, so you can decide for yourself whether to go down that road.

Remove your "connections," e.g. education and work, current city, likes and interests

Facebook is in the process of rolling out a new system of "connections" that publicly shares information whose disclosure you used to be able to control through privacy settings, "including your current city, hometown, education and work, and likes and interests."

The sharing of this information will happen after Facebook prompts you—if it hasn't already—to convert data entries in your profile into "connections" to pages representing various places, groups, interests, political causes, and so on. But unlike in the past, when you could choose to shield who saw your interest in, say, pot legalization, this information will now be public, and your account would be linked from the pot legalization interest page.

In short, as the Electronic Frontier Foundation put it, "Facebook removed its users' ability to control who can see their own interests and personal information"

To keep this information private, you need to opt out of the "connections" Facebook offers you. The relevant information will then be missing from the appropriate section of your profile, so you'll need to stuff it all into your free-form "Bio."

At some point when you visit your Facebook profile, you'll see the dialog below. Click on the far left button, "Choose pages individually:"

Then uncheck any "connections" you don't want made public. Make a note of these connections, since they'll be removed from your profile and you may want to add them to your "Bio" later.

Once you've opted out, you can restore any information you'd like to selectively share into the "bio" section of your profile, the free-form text area of your profile under your photo. Before you enter data there, make sure you're happy with the privacy settings for that section. Click on "Account" on the top right of your profile page, select "Privacy settings" from the drop-down, then "Profile Information." "Bio" privacy settings will be listed on the first line.

Prune — or utterly nuke — your apps

Facebook recently lifted some privacy restrictions on how outside developers handle Facebook data. Previously they could only retain said data for 24 hours, now they can hold on to the data as long as they like. Facebook used to prompt users before sharing data with a partner site, but, as VentureBeat points out, it will no longer do so for "special" partners like Yelp, Pandora and Microsoft. Also, some Facebook sharing that needed two or three pop-up dialogs to authorize now require just one.

The changes are even riskier than they appear, as ReadWriteWeb said: Now that non-Facebook websites are allowed to hoard Facebook user data, said sites will become inviting targets for hackers. And it's your Facebook data the hackers will be after. Of course, you have to worry about more than just computer crackers, since there's not much enforcement over how even authorized Facebook developers use the data they collect. If they want to mislead you and misappropriate your data, they can — and given the track record of Facebook's partners, they just might. If that happens, have fun suing for your privacy back.

Prevention is better than damage control, of course, and the one security measure at your disposal is to whittle or eliminate the outside apps you choose to share data with.Lifehacker's Kevin Purdy put together a nice guide on this, which we'll crib from here:

Go to "Account" at the top-right of your profile page. Select "Application settings" from the drop-down. Then from the "Show" menu select "Authorized." Click to enlarge:

Click the "X" next to any app you don't use, don't trust or otherwise want to remove. After clicking "X" you'll have to click "Remove" and then "Okay." For any app you choose to keep, you should probably review its privacy settings by clicking "Edit Settings" and the "Additional permissions" tab. Uncheck any sharing feature you're not comfortable with, although be aware this could break the app's Facebook functionality.

I ALRD REMOVE ALL THE APPLICATIONS :D

Gayest Video Ever

21.04.2010

Hmm...

Been a busy day today, woke up arnd 6.40am today coz had a 9am (C++) class. Picked up my frens arnd 8.40 and went for breakfast at a useless mamak Shop near Bukit Jalil, seriously damn hopeless la the food and the teh tarik like cendol only. Betul2 slack la sarapan aku pada pagi yang mulia ini.

After breakfast, me and my friends masuk class arnd 9.20 but the lecturer havent enter the class yet, as usual, he is always late for class. C++ class is really damn stressful because my lecturer is really very demanding when it comes to our assignment and always like to emotional blackmail the students. We are supposed to prepare a Calculator program and submit to him by evening but we didnt manage to do it because me and my friends didnt know how to do it.

Besides that, I and my friend went out 2 care4 near bukit jalil to buy some stuffs and one shot makan our lunch there and the food was okay. Then at 1.45 i entered my dwds class and my fren Mr.Tayallen was the topic of the day. He used his laptop to do the program and he encountered some errors and I told my lecturer that he is using pirated Windows 7 and thats why there is error in his program and all started laughing. My lecturer named him "Pirated Thaya" after that, pity him hahaha. Well all I can say is, he deserves it because he likes to talk alot, he can keep on talking for hours and never gets tired of it.

Today Mr.Arwin Kumar was quite annoyed with his friends because he wanted to play futsal tomorrow but it looks like its not gonna happen because his opponent team cant seem to make it tomorrow. He and Kumana are still finding team to play tomorrow, hope they can find a.s.a.p.

I left college arnd 5.30 and reached home arnd 6.40pm, the traffic jam was terrible but its was moving. I will be going to low yat in awhile for some dealings.

Thats about it for today. Cya later :D

Brother of MU striker assaulted

The brother of Manchester United striker Mame Biram Diouf is recovering from an attack by rival fans outside Manchester City's stadium on Saturday.

Abdul Diouf watched United beat its fierce city rival 1-0 in the English Premier League with an injury-time goal before a group of home fans spotted the United shirt he was wearing as he left.

He was punched and kicked to the ground, but was not seriously injured.

Diouf's agent, Jim Solbakken, said his client's brother was fine and they decided against making a complaint to the police over the attack.

"The case is closed," Solbakken said. "He was walking about in a Manchester United shirt. It wasn't a smart thing to do."

Greater Manchester Police confirmed they had not received a report about the incident and were therefore not planning to take any action.

Manchester City has not received any complaint either.

Abdul Diouf's shirt was adorned with the No. 32 his brother wears for United. The number was previously worn at United by striker Carlos Tevez before his contentious cross-city transfer to City in July.

Tevez's arrival at City was marked by a huge poster in Manchester taunting United fans over his move and the Argentina forward has since scored 22 Premier League goals to put City in contention for a first ever spot in the Champions League.

Relations between the clubs were further inflamed when Tevez publicly insulted United captain Gary Neville in January.

Mame Biram Diouf joined United from Molde in the same month City signed Tevez, loaning the Senegal striker back to the Norwegian club while he applied for a British work permit.

Diouf has yet to start a Premier League game but has made five substitute appearances and scored his first club goal in the last minute of January's 3-0 win over Burnley.

M'sian jailed for road rage in S'pore

A Malaysian IT manager who broke the arm of another with a wooden pole in a Singapore road rage incident was sentenced to six months months' jail by a district court in the island republic Monday.

Tan Eng Heong, 47, an IT manager working in Singapore, was found guilty of causing grievous hurt to Chua Cheng Hai, 45.

He is appealing against the sentence and is currently out on S$10,000 bail (RM 23,320).

During the 21 and a half days hearing, a district court heard how the assault began when Chua, who was driving a Mercedes-Benz van, cut into Tan's lane on Braddell Road on April 17 last year.

Tan, who was driving a Toyota Wish, became furious and overtook Chua from the left.

Both men then tried to cut into each other's lane and that eventually led to a side collision between the vehicles.

When Chua got out to check the damage to his van, Tan took out a wooden pole, placed near the driver's seat, and hit him several times.

ALL I CAN SAY IS.....
