Must Watch Movies That Probably WOULDN’T Be Released in Malaysia

Most of the ones in the list are Indie Movies, so distributors in Malaysia wouldn’t wanna touch them for fear of lack of response (and profit). Some are mainstream movies, but are themed around controversial issues (controversial only for some idiots in Malaysia).

Slumdog Millionaire
Danny Boyle’s a director who makes realistic movies you and I can always relate to. We also have A.R. Rahman scoring the soundtrack. This movie’s set in Mumbai and features a street kid one question away from winning the Who Wants To Be A Millionaire show. He is accused of cheating, but in truth, every event in his life provided him with the correct answers. Anil Kapoor as the show’s host and Irfan Khan as the cop.

Rachel Getting Married
Anne Hatheway delivers the performance of her career (so far) according to critics. A possible candidate for Best Actress. About a woman returning home from rehab to her sister’s wedding. What follows is a rise in family tensions.

Let The Right One In
A Swedish film which is gaining numerous mentions. About a 12 year old boy and his friendship with a vampire around his age.

Milk
Sean Penn might clinch the Best Actor award with this one. He potrays Harvey Milk, California’s first gay man in public office and his fight for gay rights. Not to forget Josh Brolin who plays Milk’s assassin. Our beloved Green Goblin Jr, James Franco is Milk’s lover. Would possibly get banned for obvious reasons.

Doubt
Meryl Streep as a nun and Phillip Seymour Hoffman as a priest. The nun suspects the priest to have abused a black student. How much more drama can you get from two powerhouse actors? Again, with the religious theme, would possibly get banned.

Son of Rambow
I don’t know how to describe this movie. It’s simply a beauty. A boy in a closed community discovers a copy of Rambo: First Blood. Like all kids who watch a violent action movie for the 1st time, this boy along with his bully try to reenact all scenes and shoot their own version of Rambo. A British movie.

Young People Fucking
The plot is split up into 6 segments : Prelude, Foreplay, Sex, Interlude, Orgasm, Afterglow. It’s a movie about sex, but it’s not porn. It’s all about emotions. It’s about the humour of sex. It’s about couple who can manage to make things complicated without the interference of a third party. Basically, it’s a movie we all can relate to. And hey, if you ask why this movie wouldn’t be shown in Malaysia, you need an brain scan.

The Wrestler
Darren Aronofsky, another one of those realistic film makers, made this movie about a beaten down, bruised wrestler going thru everyday life, finding love and reconnecting with his daughter, all the while looking forward to every weekend fighting in the ring. Mickey Rourke as lead character poses the jury at the Academy with a tough choice for Best Actor, arguably between him and Sean Penn in Milk.

Pray The Devil Back To Hell
A movie about war and strife in Liberia. A group and Christian and Muslim women fight for peace in 2003. And they achieved it, along the way electing the first woman president in the African continent. You will be inspired.

Mongol
The story of Genghis Khan, or more of how he became the legendary warrior before being given the name Khan to bear his power. A movie directed by a Russian, starring a Japanese in the lead character. It’s an epic. Remember Braveheart and Mel Gibson? A bloody movie, and a realistic movie. I don’t think the title is too suitable for a Malaysian release.

DONT BE SAD PEOPLE!!!!!
